  • Where is 2025 Super Bowl? Location, date, time, TV, streaming, halftime show performer for Super Bowl 59

The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs punched their tickets to Super Bowl LIX with wins on Championship Sunday. The biggest game of the season will take place at the Caesars Superdome — home of the Saints — in New Orleans, Louisiana on Feb. 9, 2025, and will kick off at approximately 6:30 p.m. ET.

New Orleans was originally granted Super Bowl LVIII, but the league changing the length of the regular season forced it to alter plans. When the NFL went from 17 to 18 weeks, the Super Bowl got pushed back a week and created a conflict that year with Mardi Gras celebrations already scheduled.

Instead of the Caesars Superdome hosting in 2024, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas was the backdrop of last year’s Super Bowl game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.

The Superdome is an important building to the people of New Orleans and was a place of refuge for 30,000 evacuees impacted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. They feared the stadium would need to be demolished, but they were able to reconstruct it. The stadium has also hosted events and concerts throughout the years.

New Orleans is rich in culture and the city plans to show the football fans attending what a good time the Big Easy can be.

“We’re about to put on one of the largest open parties on the planet,” said Marcus Brown, who is the chair of the New Orleans Super Bowl LIX host committee.

New Orleans is tied with Miami for most Super Bowls hosted by a city. With the eighth championship held at Caesars Superdome, the stadium is extending its own record for most Super Bowls hosted by a stadium.

Super Bowl IV was the first Super Bowl hosted in New Orleans, taking place in 1970. The last Super Bowl hosted in New Orleans was in 2013 for Super Bowl XLVII, when John Harbaugh and Jim Harbaugh faced off in the “Harbaugh Bowl.”

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers in a memorable game that also had a halftime show to remember, featuring Beyoncé and a Destiny’s Child reunion. The lights turned off after their performance, delaying the game.

Performer of the Week: Rebecca Ferguson

Performer of the Week: Rebecca Ferguson

    THE PERFORMER | Rebecca Ferguson

    More from TVLine

    THE SHOW | Silo

THE EPISODE | “Into the Fire” (Jan. 17, 2025)

THE PERFORMANCE | The second season of Apple TV+’s adaptation of Hugh Howey’s sci-fi trilogy felt a bit lighter on Ferguson, seeing as the story toggled between two silos, but we had the utmost faith that the series’ star would get her “moment.”

That moment arrived with the finale, in which Juliette’s awaited egress from Silo 17, to return to her people, stirred up a variety of emotions.

First, there was Juliette’s worry over an MIA Solo/Jimmy’s whereabouts turning into her realization that he had bravely tested out their makeshift protective suit with a dip into the flooded stairwell. Clocking Jimmy’s clever work as well as his delight in helping, Juliette — far from a touchy-feely character! — went in for a thank-you hug, only to be rebuffed by the longtime hermit. Still, Ferguson communicated such a sweet appreciation, almost affection, for her newfound ally.

Another friend made in Silo 17 was Hope, who was regularly demeaned by Audrey, half of the paired-up young couple she lived with. When Audrey started in again on “Eater,” Ferguson absolutely roared, as Juliette sought to leave this ersatz family unit in a better state than she found it.

“You want to be angry? Be angry at the motherf–kers who built this place and put us in it! Not us. Not her,” she urged. “All we’re trying to do is survive, but the only way we can do that is to trust the other people stuck in the same s–t as we are!”

“The people I love… they might be killing each other right now,” Juliette explained, Ferguson’s demeanor shifting from fury to just this side of melancholy. “And those are the people that I’m stuck with. My friends. My family. My dad.”

In Silo 17, “You’re all that’s left,” Juliette said to Audrey, Rick et al, as Ferguson brought the monologue to a poignant close. “So just make it work!”

Capping Ferguson’s standout hour was Juliette’s actual goodbye to Jimmy, who sweetly — maybe naively? — sought confirmation that his first new friend in decades would return, someday. Ferguson here let his question/plea sit with Juliette a moment, her face looking warmly at Steve Zahn’s Jimmy, before responding, “Nothing’s gonna stop me from trying.” And regardless of the potentially one-way trek ahead of Juliette, not to mention the very daunting prospect of ever doubling back, you believed her.

However you feel about that crazy twist at the end of Outlander’s Season 7 finale, c’mon: Caitríona Balfe sold it. She was excellent throughout the entire hour, truly, as she gave us an up-close look at how tender and raw Claire felt in her convalescence. It seemed like Balfe spent the entire hour with her eyes full of tears as incidents both touching (Jamie’s tender understanding as he brought her the candle) and unsettling (Master Raymond’s appearance at night) kept Claire off-balance, emotionally; watching her nimbly play the normally stalwart Claire as fragile offered us a new understanding of the show’s central character. So when it came time to consider the fact that Claire and Jamie’s infant daughter hadn’t died in childbirth all those years ago? With Balfe leading the way, we were ready to believe anything. — Kimberly Roots

    HONORABLE MENTION: Lisseth Chavez

“Plain Clothes Day” was just plain fun, thanks to a vibrant, layered performance by The Rookie‘s Lisseth Chavez. As Officer Juarez rode “solo” with a silent Nolan at her side, the rookie relished in the independence. So when Nolan accidentally took lead on an investigation and Juarez called him out for it — “It undermined my authority with a man who is already more inclined to trust someone who looks like you over someone who looks like me” — Chavez’s line delivery was perfect, and affecting. The rest of the hour featured Chavez in a lighter moment (“You have my permission to call me a badass,” after Celina pinned down a mountain of a man), as well as an emotionally intense one, as she told a vigilante at gunpoint, “I don’t want to kill a grieving mother for avenging her daughter’s murder.” — M.W.M.

  • ‘God Bless the USA’ singer Lee Greenwood defends inauguration performer Carrie Underwood

“God Bless the U.S.A.” singer Lee Greenwood said his friend and fellow inauguration performer Carrie Underwood will “do a great job” on Monday despite the hate she’s been receiving.

“I pity those people that think they have to reach out to a star like her and run some negativity past her when all you have to do is say, ‘Thank you for performing for our next president,’” he told The Post.

The “American Idol” alum was slammed with comments on her Instagram page, criticizing her for performing for Donald Trump, calling her “disgraceful,” “a sellout” and “insurrectionist Barbie.”

Carrie Underwood, pictured here with Lee Greenwood, his wife, Kimberly, and their sons, Parker and Dalton, backstage at the Grand Ole Opry, will sing “America the Beautiful” at Donald Trump’s inauguration. Kim Greenwood

Greenwood, 82, who has performed with Underwood at the Country Music Awards, said haters need to “move on.”

“I mean, he is the next president. Come on. Stop this negative crap.”

The Grammy winner will proudly perform his patriotic anthem — which he wrote in 30 minutes in the back of his tour bus in 1983 — right before Trump is sworn in.

“I will sing live with the United States Marine Corps band only moments before Donald Trump swears in as the president,” said Greenwood of his third inauguration appearance. He sang for Trump in 2017 and George H. W. Bush in 1989.

This one will be different. “There’s going to be a lot more security because of the attempt on his life,” he said.

Trump personally invited Greenwood to sing at his inauguration while they were at Mar-a-Lago. Courtesy Donald J Trump For President 2024

Trump invited Greenwood to perform recently while he and his wife, former Miss Tennessee Kimberly Payne, were guests at Mar-a-Lago.

“My wife and I were standing with him at an event backstage and I said, ‘Are you going to need me in Washington?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely.’”

The California native, who lives in Franklin, TN, sang at six Republican National Conventions, but said introducing Trump after the then-presidential candidate was nearly killed at a rally in Butler, PA, was the most special.

“That may have been the most historic moment for me in all of my performances with presidents,” Greenwood said.

“This is the moment you have to introduce the president to the world again with a bandage on his right ear. I had to go on his time, on his clock. He took very slow steps walking to the box.”

Greenwood took his direction from Donald Trump, Jr., who was cautiously scanning the room.

“He was very serious. He was looking out at the arena. It wasn’t a moment of jubilation. It was like, ‘Is there anybody else going to take a shot at my dad?’”

“I will sing live with the United States Marine Corps band only moments before Donald Trump swears in as the president,” said Greenwood. Bloomberg via Getty Images

The country singer has thought about safety on stage.

“I think it’s in the back of my mind. I have several people with Secret Service and ATF that I confide in and they give me the outlook for danger. And we’re well protected normally,” he said.

“I’ve been with the military before at a USO tour where I got shot at. So I know what it feels like. But I’m confident and I’m proud to stand up. If President Trump can stand up there and not be afraid, I am not afraid.”

Greenwood, who also sang as Trump took the stage at his rally at Madison Square Garden, described the atmosphere as he approached the arena.

“There’s people on every street corner. And there’s about 60 to 80 people smashed against the barricade, about 400 or 500 people behind them. So I rolled the window down to talk to policemen. There were about 60 people on the corner with huge Trump flags. And they saw me in the window, and they said, ‘Greenwood’s here! Trump’s right behind him, we know!’” he recalled.

“We were very pleased that not only did Madison Square Garden sell out, but there were 100,000 people in the crowd outside waiting just to get a look at him. I thought New York was going to go red at that point.”

Greenwood “had no idea” his song would be so famous when he penned it over 40 years ago, and said there’s been a “steady climb” of streams and downloads since Trump reintroduced it to the country. AFP via Getty Images

From being on stage with Trump, Greenwood has learned something people may not know about the 47th president.

“He’s a big man. He’s like 6’4.” And many times, I’m on stage, and as a courtesy, I will stand back and salute him and then shake hands. He’ll reach out and grab me and give me a bear hug. He’s strong.”

Greenwood “had no idea” his song would be so famous when he penned it over 40 years ago, and said there’s been a “steady climb” of streams and downloads since Trump reintroduced it to the country.

“And President Trump has said before, when he takes the stage, he’ll say, ‘Well, I hope you’ve made a lot of money from this,’” he said.

“Yes, there is a more critical ascent of a revenue stream. And I’m happy about that. Thank you, President Trump.”

The recent controversy surrounding Carrie Underwood’s performance at the presidential inauguration has sparked a heated debate among fans and critics alike. However, one iconic voice in the music industry is coming to her defense.

Lee Greenwood, the singer of the patriotic anthem “God Bless the USA,” has spoken out in support of Underwood, praising her talent and dedication to her craft. In a recent interview, Greenwood emphasized the importance of respecting artists’ right to express themselves through their music, regardless of personal beliefs or political affiliations.

As a fellow musician who has faced his fair share of criticism and backlash over the years, Greenwood understands the challenges that come with being in the spotlight. He believes that Underwood should be celebrated for her incredible talent and contributions to the music industry, rather than being torn down for her decision to perform at the inauguration.

In the face of adversity, it’s heartwarming to see a music legend like Lee Greenwood stand up for his fellow artist and defend their right to share their music with the world. Let’s follow his example and show our support for Carrie Underwood as she continues to inspire us with her incredible voice and powerful performances. God bless the USA, and God bless the artists who bring us together through the universal language of music.

  • Here’s Why Vistra Was a Top Performer in the S&P 500 in 2024

Shares in Vistra (VST 2.85%) rose by an incredible 257.9% in 2024, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. The company started the year as an integrated retail electricity and power generation company, and it ended the year by becoming one of the year’s hottest artificial intelligence (AI) plays on the market.

    AI and nuclear power

The boom in AI applications in 2024 brought with it the concomitant need to invest in data centers to support that growth. I’ll get to Vistra’s role in a moment — first a few words on how nuclear power became popular in 2024.

There is a critical need to secure a long-term, reliable power source for data centers, and nuclear power is increasingly seen as the answer. Nuclear power is seen as a carbon-free way to ensure reliable power, and it has become even more popular considering renewable energy’s difficulties in recent years, including surging costs, logistics issues, and supply chain constraints.

Indeed, it’s no coincidence that the most significant three cloud service providers signed deals with nuclear power producers in 2024. Microsoft inked a long-term power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy to restart part of the Three Mile Island nuclear plant. Alphabet‘s Google signed a deal to buy nuclear energy from small modular reactors (SMR) developed by Kairos Power.

Meanwhile, Amazon‘s Amazon Web Services paid $650 million to buy a data center campus from Talen Energy and signed a long-term deal to buy power from Talen’s nearby nuclear plant. Amazon also signed deals to support the development of SMRs. While the Amazon/Talen deal received a blow when the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission rejected a proposal allowing Talen to sell more power to Amazon, the IT giant has subsequently reaffirmed its commitment to the original equipment.

    A power plant.

    Where Vistra fits in

The company started the year with only 2,400 megawatts (MW) of its 36,702 MW of generating capacity coming from nuclear, but significantly added to that figure with the completion of a deal to acquire Energy Harbor in March, adding 4,000 MW of nuclear generation capacity. Vistra would then acquire the remaining 15% it didn’t own in Vistra Vision (which held its nuclear assets, among others).

The deal was perfect timing, and investors now anticipate that Vistra will also sign a lucrative long-term power supply agreement with a data center operator. That’s something to look out for.

Suzanne Frey, an executive at Alphabet, is a member of The Motley Fool’s board of directors. John Mackey, former CEO of Whole Foods Market, an Amazon subsidiary, is a member of The Motley Fool’s board of directors. Lee Samaha has no position in any of the stocks mentioned. The Motley Fool has positions in and recommends Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft. The Motley Fool recommends Constellation Energy and recommends the following options: long January 2026 $395 calls on Microsoft and short January 2026 $405 calls on Microsoft. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy.

Vistra Corporation, a leading energy company, had an outstanding performance in 2024, making it one of the top performers in the S&P 500. Here’s why Vistra stood out among its peers and delivered strong returns for investors:

    1. Strategic Acquisitions: Vistra made several strategic acquisitions in 2024, expanding its presence in key markets and diversifying its portfolio. These acquisitions helped drive revenue growth and enhance the company’s competitive position in the industry.

    2. Focus on Renewable Energy: Vistra has been actively investing in renewable energy projects, positioning itself as a leader in the transition to a clean energy future. The company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility has resonated with investors and customers alike.

    3. Cost Efficiency: Vistra has been successful in driving cost efficiencies and improving operational performance, leading to higher profitability and margins. The company’s focus on operational excellence has helped it weather market challenges and deliver consistent results.

    4. Strong Management Team: Vistra’s management team has a proven track record of execution and value creation. Their strategic vision and leadership have guided the company through a challenging operating environment and positioned it for long-term success.

    5. Resilience in the Face of Adversity: Despite facing headwinds such as regulatory changes and market volatility, Vistra has demonstrated resilience and adaptability, maintaining its position as a top performer in the S&P 500. The company’s ability to navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities has been a key driver of its success.

Overall, Vistra’s strong performance in 2024 can be attributed to its strategic focus, operational excellence, and commitment to sustainability. As the energy industry continues to evolve, Vistra is well-positioned to deliver value for investors and stakeholders in the years to come.
