  • Simons stays out west, Portland reunites with ex-Blazer

The Portland Trail Blazers have a difficult decision regarding what to do with Anfernee Simons.

On the one hand, they could trade him before the February 6 deadline to clear a path for the future backcourt of Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe, especially considering he’s set for a substantial payday after his contract is up after next season.

On the other hand, Simons is just 25 years old and still fits the Blazers’ rebuilding timeline. Portland is also already struggling with their three-point shooting and playmaking. Do they want to move someone who helps in those two key areas?

We will find out in one week which route GM Joe Cronin decides to take. But if the Blazers decide to trade Simons, it’s easy to find potential landing spots that make sense. His combo guard skill set and three-point shooting ability make him a good fit for several teams.

One team that could be looking to upgrade their roster is the Los Angeles Clippers, who are sixth in the Western Conference and still a piece or two away from making a deep playoff run. A Simons-James Harden backcourt pairing would be difficult for opposing teams to defend. That would make the Clippers a tough out in the playoffs when considering them in tandem with Kawhi Leonard, Ivica Zubac, and the always-underrated Norman Powell.

Blazers send Anfernee Simons to Clippers in mock trade

But what would it take for Portland to part ways with one of its best players? A trade proposed by Sporting News’ Nathaniel Holloway has the Blazers receiving a package that’s a mixed bag of draft capital, salary fillers, and a hint of upside.

Here is the deal in full:

The mock trade doesn’t specify what draft capital Portland would be getting back, but for the sake of grading it, we will assume that the Blazers receive one first-round pick. The Blazers would also need to waive one player to make it work, but P.J. Tucker is on an expiring deal, so that’s essentially a wash.

    Should the Trail Blazers accept?

Duop Reath was recently named the most likely Blazers player to be traded by Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him included in any deal the Blazers make at the deadline, given he’s on a minimum contract and his role and production have declined this year. But does it make sense for the Blazers to accept this package for Simons and Reath?

Bones Hyland is 24 years old and could be a possible backup point guard for Scoot Henderson. He’s shooting 37.7% from deep this season and could help offset at least some of the shooting loss from Simons’ departure.

Outside of the first-round pick, the most intriguing piece in this deal would be former Blazer Derrick Jones Jr. He spent one season in 2020-21 in Portland and wasn’t very impactful that year, averaging 6.8 points. But Jones has improved since leaving Portland, particularly as a shooter, as he’s connecting on 37.1% of his threes this year.

The Blazers need to bolster their wing depth, and Jones would be an underrated addition as someone who is just reaching his prime, having a career-best season at 27 years old. Not to mention, he’s an incredible athlete. The electrifying dunks that would take place between “Airplane Mode” and Shaedon Sharpe almost make it worth taking this deal alone.

The idea of adding Jones and Hyland to Portland’s young core and still landing a first-round pick seems like a solid return for Simons.

    Grade: B

In a surprising turn of events, Anfernee Simons has decided to stay out west and sign a new contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. The young guard has shown tremendous potential in his time with the team and fans are thrilled to see him continue to develop in Rip City.

But that’s not the only reunion happening in Portland. The Blazers have also decided to bring back a familiar face from their past – former Blazer and fan favorite, Nicolas Batum. The versatile forward spent seven seasons in Portland before moving on to play for the Charlotte Hornets and Los Angeles Clippers.

With Simons staying put and Batum returning to the team, the Blazers are looking to build a strong roster for the upcoming season. Fans are excited to see how these two players will contribute to the team’s success and are hopeful for a deep playoff run.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Blazers’ offseason moves and get ready to see Simons and Batum in action once again in Portland.

  • Royals Former All-Star Reunites With Pirates After Disappointing 2024 In KC

The Kansas City Royals were hoping that a former All-Star could recapture some magic in 2024, and it unfortunately didn’t pan out.

Adam Frazier, a utility man whose primary position has typically been second base, signed a one-year deal with the Royals last winter that included an $8.5 million mutual option for 2025. Frazier was so bad, though, that the Royals exercised a $2.5 million buyout to get him off the roster.

With a .202/.282/.294 slash line in 104 games this season, Frazier was one of the worst hitters not only on the Royals, but in Major League Baseball. Entering his age-33 season, the nine-year veteran is now hoping to cling on long enough to earn his full pension at 10 years of service time.

Fortunately, one of Frazier’s former teams is hoping he can rekindle that old magic in the same uniform he once starred in.

On Tuesday, Frazier reportedly agreed to a one-year, major league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team he made an All-Star appearance for in 2021. The deal virtually guarantees him a spot on the Pirates’ Opening Day roster.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post was the first to report the news via X.

Frazier spent the first five-and-a-half seasons of his career in Pittsburgh, racking up 10.5 bWAR in 608 games. 2021 was by far his best year, especially in the first half, before he was traded to the San Diego Padres. He slashed .324/.388/.448 in 98 games with the Pirates that year.

Since the start of 2022, though, Frazier has played 401 games with a .632 OPS. At his best, he’s a serviceable bench/utility player, like he was for the 2023 Baltimore Orioles, but at his worst, he’s borderline unplayable.

The Royals, for their part, simply have to hope they have more success with this year’s crop of utility signings (looking at you, Cavan Biggio) than Frazier had in Kansas City.

More MLB: $2.5 Million Ex-Giants Veteran Named ‘Cost-Effective Target’ For Royals

In a surprising turn of events, former All-Star outfielder Andrew McCutchen has reunited with the Pittsburgh Pirates after a disappointing 2024 season with the Kansas City Royals.

McCutchen, who was once the face of the Pirates franchise and won the National League MVP award in 2013, was traded to the San Francisco Giants in 2018 before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2019. He then had stints with the New York Yankees and the Royals before returning to Pittsburgh.

The 36-year-old veteran is excited to be back with the team where he began his career and is looking forward to helping the Pirates return to their winning ways. Despite his struggles in Kansas City last season, McCutchen is determined to prove that he still has plenty left in the tank and can be a valuable asset to his former team.

Pirates fans are thrilled to see McCutchen back in black and gold, and are hopeful that his return will bring some much-needed excitement and success to the struggling franchise. Only time will tell if this reunion will be a successful one, but one thing is for sure – McCutchen’s love for the city of Pittsburgh and its fans is undeniable.

Demi and Will previously worked together in the comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga in which she played one of his character’s rivals, Katiana Lindsdóttir.

A few days before Demi took in the action on the ice at Crypto.com arena, she and Jutes celebrated both Christmas and the anniversary of their engagement.

‘1 year of being engaged to my favorite person,’ Jutes wrote on his Dec. 16 Instagram Stories. ‘I’m so lucky and can’t wait to marry u baby.’

‘My sweet angel,’ Demi added, reposting the pic, ‘I love you infinitely and cannot wait to call you my husband!!! Happy 1 year of being engaged baby!!’

The Camp Rock alum went official with Jutes in August 2022, not long after she teased the ‘mystery gentleman’ she was singing about on her album Holy FV-K.

Jutes, real name Jordan Lutes, is also a musician and he and Demi met in the studio.

‘We met in the studio and he actually helped cowrite one of my singles, Substance, and a few songs off my last album,’ Demi shared during a December 2023 episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show.

‘We worked really well together and we’re also just super in love,’ she gushed.

The Kings mascot Bailey made a big deal out of Demi, hugging her, posing for photos with her, and calling Demi his #1 fan in a later Instagram post

‘It’s amazing to find someone that you just laugh with and that you get to make music with,’ she continued. ‘It’s just so special.’

And in December 2023, Jutes, 33, popped the question and left Demi speechless with joy.

‘I’m still speechless,’ Demi wrote on Instagram the following day. ‘Last night was the best night of my life and I can’t believe I get to marry the love of my life @jutesmusic.’

‘My love, I’m beyond excited to marry you,’ the singer continued, ‘every day I’ve spent with you has been a dream come true and I can’t wait to love and cherish you forever. Here’s to the rest of our lives. I love you baby.’

Earlier this fall, Demi reconfirmed her deep love for Jutes to Teen Vogue, saying she ‘lives and breathes’ for the ‘connection’ she and Jordan share.

Lovato added: ‘Everything I do, I wish I was with him. I see my future with him. I see growing old with him.’

The couple are busy planning their 2025 wedding and thinking about their future family.

Demi wants to have children, but not for awhile, ‘I’m not ready to give up my alone time with [Jordan],’ she told the outlet.

But the former child star, whose past battle with addiction made tabloid covers for year, doesn’t want her future kids to live life in the spotlight.

‘I don’t even want to share their faces in pictures on Instagram when they’re born,’ Lovato said. ‘I want them to have that anonymity.’

Demi noted that most of her life has been laid bare for the public to view and she doesn’t want that for her kids.

‘I share a lot with the world and I just want some things to be mine,’ she explained,  adding, ‘Yeah, I’ve given a lot.’

Demi Lovato was spotted at a hockey game in LA with her fiance, Jutes, and they had a special surprise reunion with former co-star Will Ferrell!

The trio looked like they were having a blast as they cheered on their team from the stands. Demi and Jutes were all smiles as they enjoyed the game together, and it was clear that they were having a great time.

But the highlight of the night was when Demi and Jutes ran into Will Ferrell during intermission. The three of them shared a warm embrace and caught up on old times, reminiscing about their time working together on a past project.

It’s always heartwarming to see former co-stars reconnecting and enjoying each other’s company, and it’s clear that Demi, Jutes, and Will have a special bond that has stood the test of time.

Overall, it was a night filled with excitement, laughter, and nostalgia for Demi Lovato and her fiance, Jutes, as they enjoyed a fun evening at the hockey game in LA.

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ trailer reunites Adam Sandler with Upstate NY actor: Buzz

Netflix and Adam Sandler blessed everyone with a special gift on Christmas and the first day of Hanukkah with a teaser trailer for “Happy Gilmore 2.”

The “Happy Gilmore” sequel reunites the titular star with Upstate New York native Christopher McDonald, who plays golf rival Shooter McGavin.

“Gilmore,” McDonald’s character growls as they meet at what appears to be the grave of Chubbs Peterson (late actor Carl Weathers).

“McGavin,” Sandler’s Happy Gilmore cooly responds.

The clip, released on Wednesday, also features appearances by Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce and original “Happy Gilmore” star Julie Bowen, who now may be better known for her role on “Modern Family.” The cast also includes Bad Bunny, Eminem, Kid Cudi, Nick Swardson, Margaret Qualley and the return of Ben Stiller.

McDonald, a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan who grew up in Romulus and graduated from Hobart College in Geneva, has appeared in more than 200 movies and TV shows, including “Thelma & Louise,” “Quiz Show,” “Requiem for a Dream,” and the 1997 “Leave It to Beaver” remake. However, Shooter McGavin remains one of his most popular characters and he’s embraced the sports comedy with officially licensed “Shooter” clothing and golf gear in a partnership with Extra Butter x Adidas.

“Happy Gilmore,” co-written by Sandler and one of his first movies after starring on “Saturday Night Live,” was released in 1996. The original movie, which also featured Kevin Nealon, Bob Barker, and Joe Flaherty, centered on an angry hockey player who finds success as a golfer, joining the pro tour to try to raise enough money to save his grandmother’s house.

“Happy Gilmore 2,” directed by Kyle Newacheck (”Workaholics”) and written by Sandler with Tim Herlihy (”The Wedding Singer,” “Happy Gilmore”), will be released in the summer of 2025 on Netflix.
