Serena Williams celebrates special bond with father Richard, husband Alexis Ohanian, & daughters Olympia and Adira during fun family outing
Serena Williams recently took a moment to celebrate her special bond with her father Richard, whom she has long credited as the driving force behind her legendary tennis career. The former World No. 1 enjoyed a family day with her father, her husband Alexis Ohanian, and their daughters.
Williams took to social media and shared an endearing clip, beaming as she posed with her father. The 23-time Grand Slam champion’s elder daughter Olympia adorably joined the duo for a sweet snap, with her husband Alexis Ohanian and younger daughter Adira also present during their fun family outing.
“Family bonds,” she captioned her Instagram post.
Serena Williams enjoys a close bond with her father Richard, often crediting him for relentlessly pushing her and her sister Venus Williams during their childhood. However, the 43-year-old has acknowledged that she struggled to give that same motivation to her daughters.
In a 2024 interview with the New York Times, the former World No. 1 confessed that while she would be “devastated” if she didn’t push her daughters as hard as her father had pushed her, she found it difficult to do so because of how young and adorable Olympia and Adira were.
“That’s a really good question. I don’t know. I always look at my dad, and I think, How were you able to do that? Because I’m like, Oh, they’re so cute. I just want them to relax and I don’t want to over-push them. But I would be devastated if I wasn’t pushed, because we wouldn’t be having this interview and there would never have been a Serena Williams,” she said.
“So I feel so fortunate that I had an opportunity to have that extra oomph. But for whatever reason, I’m having a hard time connecting to that extra push, and that’s something I’ve been trying to figure out myself, how to give that extra motivation to my daughters, because it’s definitely worth it, I can confirm from experience,” she added.
Serena Williams on daughter Olympia’s tennis talent: “I already told my dad, ‘Maybe you have to coach her’”
Serena Williams with her daughter Olympia – Source: Getty During the same interview, Serena Williams lavished praise on her daughter Olympia’s natural athletic ability, disclosing that even Venus Williams acknowledged that the seven-year-old possessed more talent than both of them combined.
However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion confessed that she was “too nice” to harness her daughter’s talent and disclosed that she had already told her father that he would have to be the one to coach Olympia in tennis.
“The 8-month-old is so tiny, but Olympia is such a bright light, and she’s so athletic, to the point where it’s just not even humanly possible. Even Venus, she was like, “That kid has more talent than you and I combined,” and she’s not lying,” Serena Williams said.
“So I can see how my dad may have seen some potential in us. I’m just trying to figure out a way to harness all that. I already told my dad, “Maybe you have to coach her, because I’m too nice,” she added.
Serena Williams further emphasized that she had immense respect for her parents due to the unwavering commitment they displayed towards her and Venus Williams’ tennis careers from a young age.

As a senior, he earned National Special Teams Player of the Year by George Michael Sports Machine, a popular national sports show at the time.
Ekeler went on to coach at a number of collegiate programs, including Indiana, USC, Georgia, North Carolina, and Kansas. He spent three seasons in Lincoln under coach Bo Pelini, leading the linebackers.
During his time in Lincoln, Nebraska won or shared the Big 12 Conference North Division every season. Ekeler aided in some of the best Husker defenses of the 21st century. In 2010, Nebraska was fifth nationally in pass defense (153.6), ninth in scoring defense (17.4) and 11th in total defense (306.8). In 2009, the Cornhuskers led the country in scoring defense (10.4) and pass efficiency defense, while ranking seventh in total defense (271.3) and eighth in rushing defense (92.43).

Tennessee will have a void to feel on its coaching staff this offseason, after all.
Mike Ekeler, who has served as the Vols’ special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach the last four seasons, is leaving the program for the same role at Nebraska.
TALK ABOUT IT IN THE ROCKY TOP FORUM
InsideNebraska confirmed reports of Ekeler’s departure Monday.
A Nebraska native, it will be a reunion for Ekeler, who coached at the school as its linebackers coach under former Cornhuskers head coach Bo Pelini from 2008-10.
Ekeler had assistant coaching stints at Indiana, Southern California, Georgia, North Texas, North Carolina and Kansas before joining Josh Heupel‘s inaugural staff at Tennessee in 2021.
Ekeler was one of three assistant coaches whose contracts were set to expire at the end of January. Defensive coordinator Tim Banks signed an extension with the Vols late last month after leading a top 10 unit on the way to Tennessee’s first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.
Ekeler and defensive backs coach Willie Martinez were the remaining coaches who at least had a publicly announced contract extension.
The Vols’ were nearing spring practices without any coaching turnover for the first time in more than four seasons. Tennessee lost wide receivers coach Kodi Burns to the NFL after one season in 2021 and offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Alex Golesh took the head coaching job at USF following the Vols’ record-setting season in 2022.
Both running backs coach Jerry Mack and linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary left for the same roles in the NFL and Michigan, respectively at the end of the 2023 season.
In three of those cases, Heupel promoted from within, elevating analyst Kelsey Pope to coach wide receivers and quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle to offensive coordinator, while moving Alec Abeln from an analyst role to tight ends coach.
Tennessee hired De’Rail Sims away from Louisville to coach running backs and William Inge from Washington to fill the linebackers coach role last offseason.
It remains unclear what direction Heupel will go in to replace Ekeler. The Vols averaged 15.7 yards per punt return in 2024—good for ninth among FBS teams–while allowing 6.7 yards per return.
Tennessee special teams coach Mike Ekeler has announced that he will be leaving the Volunteers to join the coaching staff at Nebraska. Ekeler, who has been with Tennessee since 2018, has helped lead the special teams unit to great success during his time with the program. In a statement, Ekeler expressed his gratitude for his time at Tennessee and his excitement for the opportunity to return to Nebraska, where he previously coached from 2008-2010. He thanked the players, coaches, and fans for their support and said he looks forward to the next chapter in his coaching career.
During his tenure at Tennessee, Ekeler’s special teams unit has been a key part of the team’s success, consistently ranking among the best in the SEC. His departure is sure to be felt by the Volunteers, but Nebraska fans are surely thrilled to welcome him back to the program.
We wish Coach Ekeler the best of luck in his new role at Nebraska and thank him for his contributions to the Tennessee football program.

#Tennessee #special #teams #coach #Mike #Ekeler #leaving #NebraskaMatt Rhule set to hire Mike Ekeler as special teams coordinator
Nebraska football and head coach Matt Rhule have found its next special teams coordinator.
Inside Nebraska can confirm Mike Ekeler will lead Nebraska’s special teams in 2025. Ekeler spent the past four years on Josh Heupel’s staff at Tennessee as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach.
Ekeler has plenty of ties to the state of Nebraska and the Husker football program. He’s from David City and coached Nebraska’s linebackers for three seasons for Bo Pelini from 2008-10.
Ekeler replaces former Nebraska special teams coordinator Ed Foley, who Rhule hired to his first staff in December 2022 but was let go by Rhule in early January upon his contract expiring on Dec. 31, 2024. That decision came after the Huskers’ major two-year struggles on special teams, the worst of which came during the 2024 season and ultimately culminated in the biggest breaking point – game-changing mistakes by the special teams units that paved the way for the Huskers’ 13-10 loss at Iowa in November.
Rhule is now turning to Ekeler in the mission to turn things around on those special teams units.

He has previously held positions at schools such as Georgia, Nebraska, USC, and Indiana, where he helped develop some of the top special teams units in the country.

It was not the best of nights for Los Angeles Lakers veteran star LeBron James and his team faced a devastating 118-104 loss against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. Anthony Davis had to depart from the game following his injury during the game which left the Lakers short-handed to defend their game against the Sixers. However, James shared a special moment with Allen Iverson’s mother, Ann Iverson.
Certainly, it was a special moment for NBA fans as James shared his heartfelt gratitude for the mother of the former basketball star who was also dubbed The Answer. James stepped out of the visitors’ locker room at Wells Fargo Center with a smile on his face. Before leaving, he took a moment to greet Iverson’s mother, Ann. The two shared a warm embrace and exchanged a few words. It was a touching courtside moment.
Ann came prepared to meet James, bringing a few photos for him to sign. The Lakers star nodded to her request. As he signed, James mentioned that his son, Bronny James, had just left. Ann smiled, saying she would have asked the rookie for an autograph too. After ensuring the ink was dry, LeBron carefully placed the photos in an envelope. The two shared another warm hug before posing for pictures. Before parting ways, Ann told King James that she was proud of him, capping off a heartfelt exchange.
While the moment was beautiful, he and his team failed to secure the victory against the Sixers. As Davis was missing from action after about 10 minutes of play, James shared that it was tough to lead the team without the 31-year-old center/forward. “When our best player goes out, it’s always challenging,” James said during the post-match conversation with the reporters.
“If he’s out from the beginning, then we have a game plan set. We know what to expect [and] we know what our lineups gonna be. I didn’t realize until the second quarter when he didn’t come back in his regular minutes,” he continued. When speaking of the injury concern for Davis, he added, “Level of concern? He’ll be fine.”
James added 31 points in the game where his son Bronny James also had the chance to play alongside his father. Bronny was, however, surprised to get the call to appear in the game, “I knew beforehand that I was coming in (and) getting some minutes, but I didn’t know before I got the call to come. It just came out of nowhere,” he shared adding, “…(I’m) just always trying to stay ready to play and always keep my mind right.”

Before every game at Emirates Stadium, Martin Odegaard lifts the lid on the mood in the camp via his captain’s notes published in the matchday programme.
Ahead of today’s huge clash with Manchester City, he writes about our impressive Champions League campaign, Ethan Nwaneri’s growth throughout the season and the rivalry between ourselves and the reigning champions. Here is a snippet:
We were really pleased with how we finished off in the Champions League on Wednesday night, with another very good win. I think during the league phase overall we were very solid throughout the whole programme.
We went into it wanting to finish in the top eight, but of course you don’t really know how many points you will need because it was completely new for everyone. So our approach was just to go into every game looking to win. We managed to finish third, winning six out of our eight matches and qualify directly into the round of 16, so that’s brilliant for us.
It was a really good night for Ethan, he had another great performance. I’ve said before that we don’t look at him as an emerging talent, we just see him as a great player. That says it all really for someone who’s 17. He’s just a natural part of our squad and the team, and you can see the talent he brings. It was another great goal from him, we’re all really pleased for him.
Everyone can see what he can do with the ball, his touch and technique, but he’s also really physical. He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s strong, so powerful and can run with the ball. He takes on players and has the power in his body to beat them. Then there’s his finishing – he has a great strike with his left foot.
Today we face Manchester City, which is always one of the biggest games of the season. It maybe feels a bit different to what we would have been expecting a few months ago. It’s been strange to be fair, we’re not used to seeing them losing games and dropping points but it’s proof of how tough this league is, how difficult every game is and how you have to be so switched on for every single moment.
But everyone knows the quality in their team, and how tough the game will be. It’s another battle for us, and with the history between us over the past couple of years, it’s a special game. Let’s be up for it, and be ready for hopefully a big night at home.
At this stage of the season, coming into the last few months, the games are bigger and there is more to play for. The stakes are high, and we have to make things happen. We can do that together, by creating a great atmosphere inside the stadium again today, and embracing it together. Enjoy the game.

The Norwegian midfielder expressed his excitement at facing a top team like City and relished the opportunity to test himself against some of the best players in the world.
As Real Madrid prepare for their crucial Champions League tie against City, Odegaard’s praise for Nwaneri and his anticipation for the game only adds to the excitement surrounding the match. The Warriors’ upset win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night at Chase Center was nothing short of a true team win.
Before Golden State capped off its eventual 116-109 victory over the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed, it trailed by as many as 14 points in the first quarter before storming back, eventually tying the game in the third quarter and taking the lead in the fourth before capping off the monster win at home.
The energy from the Chase Center crowd was high throughout the entire second half, and it peaked when Warriors guard Gary Payton II threw down a vicious poster dunk on Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein to extend Golden State’s lead to 114-105 with 1:03 remaining in the game.

The electrifying moment, while just one basket in a series of big plays down the stretch, brought the Warriors’ bench to its feet and provided a big boost that Payton’s teammates fed off of.

“Over the course of the last four years, there have been moments like that,” Steph Curry said of Payton’s dunk postgame. “He was definitely excited because he said he hadn’t had one in a while. It doesn’t matter at what point in the game it happens, it’s always a big boost energy-wise, [the] demeanor for the whole team, to have something to celebrate.
“And for him, to show his athleticism. But to finish the game like that was special, it’s like you just want to have a stamp on a game like that, and the crowd was going crazy, the whole bench was up. That’s what a team needs when you’ve had a run like we’ve had. Not to over-emphasize one play, but it’s huge. It was a microcosm of our whole night.”
Payton has been well-known for his thunderous dunks over the years, and speaking to reporters after the game, was asked if he had been “hunting” a slam like the one on Hartenstein after not producing many posters this season.
“No, I haven’t been ‘hunting’ it, but I know I haven’t been up there in a while,” Payton explained. “Our coaches be killing us with ‘follow the help,’ so Dennis [Schröder] attacked and made a great pass and I just followed the help and if you follow the help, you get opportunities like that to get going, get your team going. I had one of those, and we were already moving and rolling, so that was just a good exclamation point, just to cap off how we played tonight.”
Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins, also known for his big dunks over the years, was excited to see his teammate get up above the rim and throw one down.
“Oh man, I haven’t seen that in a while,” Wiggins said of Payton’s dunk. “I’m happy he did it. It just shows what G is capable of. He’s a very important piece to this team on both sides of the floor, I just feel like G complements the team so well, so it’s amazing to have him.”
While the electrifying moment helped ice Golden State’s big win over the Thunder, it also provided Payton and his teammates — and Warriors fans — a level of energy that has not been felt much since the beginning of the 2024-25 NBA season.
